ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION:  In operation since April 1999, the American Legacy Foundation was created as a result of the Master Settlement Agreement between tobacco manufacturers and a coalition of 46 state Attorneys General.  Legacy’s mission is to build a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit.  The foundation’s mission is:

• To arm all young people with the knowledge and tools to reject tobacco.
• To eliminate disparities in access to tobacco prevention and cessation services.

Supported by the American Legacy Foundation, the Schroeder Institute for Tobacco Research and Policy Studies is newly established and will provide the needed research infrastructure to help facilitate the conduct of rigorous tobacco-related research.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Schroeder Institute (SI) for Tobacco Research and Policy Studies is recruiting for five (5) research scientists at all levels from postdoctoral fellows to senior scientists.  In collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of Health, Behavior and Society, the SI is envisioned as a transdisciplinary center where collaborative, integrative tobacco-control research is nurtured and flourishes.

Strategically and conveniently located in Washington, DC, the SI will play a national leadership role in identifying new research agendas as well as in conducting research, training, and policy studies in tobacco use. Under the direction of Dr. David Abrams, the SI will focus its attention on pressing and emergent challenges to research and policy that, if addressed, will be the key leverage/tipping points to making a stronger more efficient public health impact on reducing tobacco use.

Candidates must be excellent research scientists who embrace team science and can develop an independent, extramurally funded line of research that extends the SI mission. Areas of focus include but are not limited to: expanding consumer awareness (social marketing, consumer demand, and communications research); improving interventions (new and efficient treatment models, mechanisms to sustain long term cessation); vulnerable and hard to reach and treat groups (those with co-morbidities, HIV/AIDS, racial/ethnic minorities); research on harm minimization; and use of new technology and methods to inform policy and practice (tracking devices and sensors, economic modeling, simulation, systems integrative and other multi-level computational, mathematical and statistical strategies).

DEPARTMENT: Program Operations
REPORTS TO: Director of Collaboration and Outreach
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manager of Collaboration and Outreach – State Partners provides support to implement outreach activities as outlined in the foundation’s stakeholder outreach plan with a focus on state-level partners such as departments of health, public health foundations, and coalitions. The manager will complete tasks as assigned to support relationship development with state-level contacts, including providing updates on relevant foundation activities and monitoring the environment at the state and local levels. The manager will serve as the state membership liaison for the National Alliance for Tobacco Cessation, a public health collaborative established by the foundation to support a national adult tobacco cessation campaign.

The manager will work with other foundation departments and support interaction with stakeholders primarily on the state level as appropriate and needed. This position will report to the Director of Collaboration and Outreach.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Director of Collaboration and Outreach, the manager will:

• Assist with implementation of the foundation’s annual stakeholder outreach plan with an emphasis on state and local partners by completing assigned tasks, tracking plan deliverables, and completing a report that monitors plan implementation according to an established process and in coordination with the Director of Collaboration and Outreach.
• Serve as the membership liaison for state-level entities participating in the National Alliance for Tobacco Cessation by working with designated individuals internally and externally to coordinate membership activation, respond to member requests, and assist with individual and group correspondence.
• Facilitate ongoing communication between Legacy and state-level stakeholders, which includes but is not limited to, monitoring and reporting on state partner activities, assisting with opportunities for project collaboration, and supporting the development of  written updates and presentations tailored to state-specific audiences in conjunction with the Director of Collaboration and Outreach.
• Serve as a liaison to other departments to coordinate a cross-departmental effort to promote foundation activities and share information about foundation programs and initiatives with national partner organizations.
• Assist with other outreach and collaboration activities, such as national partner outreach, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of project management experience demonstrating strong organizational and customer service skills as well as the ability to meet deadlines and track multiple projects.

Experience with state government or a membership organization in the public health or tobacco control fields is desired.

Excellent written and oral communication skills are desired.

Candidate must be able work collaboratively with peers and follow-through on assignments independently. Ability to travel periodically to meetings and conferences.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

POSITION TITLE: Senior Brand Manager
DEPARTMENT: Marketing

POSITION SUMMARY:
As a member of the Foundation’s Marketing team, the Senior Brand Manager will provide direct support and report to the Director of Cessation Marketing. The Senior Brand Manager will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of Legacy-sponsored cessation marketing programs, most notably the recently launched EX^® campaign.  The Senior Brand Manager will be supported by an Assistant Brand Manager and will be partially responsible for the ongoing management and professional development of this direct report.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Manage the development and execution of the Foundation’s cessation marketing programs, primarily EX^®.
• Manage day-to-day communications with all advertising and media agencies to provide direction and feedback on projects.
• Manage day-to-day communications with various State and National partners, primarily members of the National Alliance for Tobacco Cessation and other EX^® partners, in collaboration with the Program Development department.
• Provide additional marketing support as needed to internal departments: Program Development, Strategic Partnerships, Public Policy, Priority Populations and Research.
• Provide regular updates to senior staff on all projects via status reports and in-person meetings.
• Develop and build strong relationships within the Foundation to coordinate efforts and identify synergies between other departments and Marketing.
• Develop and oversee the design and production of marketing support materials.
• Assist in the management and career development of the Assistant Brand Manager and supporting Marketing Coordinators to ensure a smooth workflow process.
• Others duties as necessary.
• Must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience in marketing and/or advertising preferred.  Must have excellent communication skills, analytic and interpersonal skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment.  Candidate must enjoy building strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and be a proactive, creative, team player.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will direct activities related to sponsored project submissions for the American Legacy Foundation’s Stephen A. Schroeder National Institute for Tobacco Research and Policy Studies.  The Director will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Research and Evaluation and be responsible for providing investigators with a full range of pre-award services that facilitate the development, preparation, and submission of grant and contract proposals for external funding including budget allocation and project initiation.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Work with the Legacy Finance Office and external funding agencies to review budget justification for appropriateness and completeness of content and verify compliance with sponsoring organization’s guidelines and Legacy’s policies and procedures.
• Develop and manage procedures for the monitoring and control of all current grant and lab budgets, from both a fiscal year and grant year perspective.
• Check relevant sections of grant proposals with budgets and budget justifications to ensure consistency.
• Coordinate submission of large multi-center proposals ensuring that all applicable direct and indirect cost rates have been applied.
• Assist with program progress reports.
• Track grant/contract proposals and other documentation through signature/approval processes.
• Coordinate subcontracts with sponsor agencies and Finance Office.
• Advise staff about changes in sponsored research policies and procedures.
• Develop a departmental database to track awards.
• Ensure that anticipated promotions and annual cost of living increases are calculated into budgets.
• Identify budget issues, make recommendations to address concerns, and resolve problems.
• Perform other duties as required based on the needs of the foundation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field and a minimum of five years of related professional experience with budget management, grant proposal preparation, and/or research grants management is required.  Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted contracting and subcontracting practices is desirable as is comprehensive knowledge of and experience working with research funding mechanisms employed by a wide array of extramural sponsors, particularly NIH grants and federal regulatory environment.  Proficiency in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing is required.  Strong problem-solving, communication, and financial analysis skills are also required.  The ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment will be required but candidate must also be able to work independently.  Excellent organizational skills are essential.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
Salary range is low to mid $80’s based on experience with EXCELLENT benefits.
