Bethlehem Beru

Youth Board Liaison

Bethlehem Beru is a junior at Temple University pursuing a double major in broadcast journalism and public relations. She aspires to become a successful news reporter. Beru was born and raised in Silver Spring, MD along with her two brothers.

She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She has also served as a member of the Organization of African Students, Main Campus Program Board and Temple Student Government. Most recently she served as an intern with the American Legacy Foundation for two consecutive years, working on both prevention and cessation initiatives with the program development and communications departments.

The internship experience gave Beru a realistic perspective about the marketing practices of the tobacco industry. Specifically dollars spent to market their products to young people and priority populations. Her passion for the American Legacy Foundation and its mission supports her beliefs as not only a young person but a woman of Ethiopian descent.

Legacy continues to make great strides to create a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit. Especially through their edgy truth® campaign and significant youth activism programs that capture the hearts and minds of young people who otherwise would not have been exposed to anti-tobacco messaging.
